How do I contact my swimmer’s coach?
In order not to interrupt practice please contact the coach as follows:
-
Tiger Sharks - after practice
-
Piranhas - before practice
-
Tadpoles/Juniors/Seniors - before or after practice
Or email Head Coach Jose Bonpua at jbonpua@gmail.com
The coaches need to hear from you if you have any questions regarding the swim program or your swimmer’s progress.
Where should parents be during practice?
It’s great if you can watch your child swim. At Eagle pool the City of Mountain View requires that all spectators stay at or behind the wall in front of the locker rooms. Only the coaches and swimmers are allowed on the deck surrounding the pool. At Foothill you can watch from the bleachers; please do not come on deck during practice.
How early/how late can I drop off or pick up my swimmer?
You can drop swimmers off fifteen minutes before practice starts and pick them up no more than fifteen minutes after the end of practice. Please check to make sure the pool is open before leaving your swimmer! Very occasionally either pool may be closed with minimal warning.
How warm is the water?
The pools are heated to 78-80 degrees, year-round. This is the appropriate temperature for active swimming. However, some of our younger swimmers do feel cool and it is okay for them to wear shorty wetsuits.
Do you cancel practice in bad weather?
We practice in all weather unless there is a threat of lightning.
Do any of the coaches offer private swim classes?
This depends on the availability of both pool and coach. Ask your swimmer’s coach if s/he, or one of the other coaches, might be able to work with your child. However, the best way for your swimmer to improve is to come regularly, listen well and work hard!
What team clothing should I buy?
When we receive your payment of the family fee your child will receive a t-shirt and team cap. The cap is required at all swim meets. Most families buy a team suit also. The children enjoy being able to wear team sweats and the team parka at meets and to practice (especially in winter). You can pick up an info packet on team apparel at the pool.
How do I know what’s going on?
Check the white board at each pool, and our website, for notices. We email our newsletter, invoice and any updates. The calendar is posted on the website. If you do not have email you can pick up the and calendar at the pool and your invoice will be mailed to you. Each swimmer has a folder which s/he should check regularly. Watch for meet sheets!
What’s a Meet Sheet?
Attending meets is not required, but (when the coach says your swimmer is ready) they are a great learning experience and fun for all. The team hosting the meet sends us all the information we need in a "meet sheet". These are copied and put in each swimmer’s folder. See our handouts on entering a meeting and attending a first meet. Check with the coach to see if the meet is suitable for your swimmer, and enter RIGHT AWAY even if you’re not certain you’re going. The meets are popular and often fill before the stated deadline.
How can I fulfill my twenty service hours? (Not required of tadpole families.)
Our team runs a meet each spring and our swimming "zone" runs a meet each winter. Both of these meets require a lot of volunteer hours and offer a wide range of opportunities. No experience required!
Some parents become very involved and train to be Stroke and Turn Officials. They officiate at meets where their child is swimming so really no extra hours are involved in this (beyond the initial training). But the team still credits you.
